Plan and coordinate safe, efficient alluvial mining, matching excavation and material delivery to geological information, plant capacity and approved operating boundaries.
· Prepare short and medium term mine plans, excavation sequences, production schedules and equipment requirements using geological and survey information.
· Coordinate stripping, selective excavation, haulage, stockpiling and feed delivery; control dilution and unnecessary material movement.
· Assess equipment productivity, haul routes, drainage and excavation conditions; obtain specialist advice where ground or water risks exceed available competence.
· Coordinate with geologists on deposit boundaries and material classification, and with the washing plant supervisor on feed consistency and processing capacity.
· Monitor volumes mined, hours worked, fuel use, downtime and unit costs; investigate variances and recommend practical improvements.
· Integrate progressive rehabilitation and water management into work plans with the responsible environmental personnel.
· Conduct field inspections, explain safe operating procedures and suspend activities where conditions present an immediate danger.
· Maintain mine plans, daily production records and monthly operating reports; verify operations remain within approved boundaries.
· Prepare wet-season operating contingencies, including alternative access, pumping priorities and triggers for suspending affected work.
· Check excavation levels and gravel extraction against survey control; arrange updated measurements before closing completed mining blocks.
· Agree how volumes will be measured and distinguish bank, loose and processed quantities when comparing mining and plant figures.
· Schedule topsoil stripping separately from other material and identify suitable storage areas for later rehabilitation.
· Lead daily coordination meetings to resolve feed shortages, equipment conflicts and access constraints.
· Prepare practical improvement proposals supported by field measurements, estimated costs and expected operating benefits.
Technical scope
Excavation sequences, material selectivity, haul routes, equipment balance and production reconciliation. Collaborate with geology and processing; specialist geotechnical design is outside the role unless competence is verified.
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; normally at least five years of relevant experience, including two years in surface or alluvial mining. Demonstrated mine planning, fleet coordination and production reporting skills. Competence in spreadsheets and relevant mine planning or CAD software; GPS and survey interpretation desirable.
Desirable Experience in Liberia or comparable West African conditions; GPS and survey interpretation; wet-season planning; relevant professional membership.
Sound operational judgement, numerical analysis, practical supervision and clear communication with equipment operators and technical teams.
Delivery against approved production plans; unit cost and equipment productivity; accuracy of production records; implementation of inspection actions; control of dilution and unplanned disruption. Targets will be agreed against site baselines; production or cost results must be assessed alongside safe practices and reliable reporting.
Current mine schedules and layouts; daily production summary; weekly variance and cost review; monthly operational report.
Issue operational instructions within approved mine plans and delegated authority. Obtain approval for significant expenditure, boundary changes or major operating changes; obtain specialist review for ground or water risks beyond competence.
Site-based work may involve heat, rain, uneven ground, noise, dust and proximity to operating machinery. Follow approved procedures, use required protective equipment and report hazards promptly. Protect company assets and confidential information; treat colleagues and host communities respectfully. Other assigned duties must be reasonable and consistent with competence. Hours, roster, remuneration and benefits are set out in the employment contract.
