Service Technician

Mantrac Liberia Limited is the sole authorized dealer for Caterpillar products in Liberia. The company provides equipment sales, technical support, maintenance, parts, and after-sales services for a wide range of Caterpillar machinery, including:

Wheel loaders
Skid steer loaders
Backhoe loaders
Excavators
Compactors
Motor graders

Mantrac also supplies and supports SEM equipment, power-generation solutions, forklifts, and other material-handling and warehousing equipment serving industries across Liberia.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a skilled, safety-conscious, and motivated Heavy Equipment Technician to join our technical team.

The successful candidate will inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment. The role requires practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems and the ability to complete repairs in accordance with Caterpillar service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Diagnosis and Repair

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on Caterpillar and other supported equipment.


• Use diagnostic tools and systematic troubleshooting methods to identify the root causes of equipment failures.


• Replace, repair, adjust, and test components to restore equipment performance.

Technical Systems and Documentation

• Use Caterpillar technical resources, including the Service Information System, Service Information Resource, parts books, and service manuals.


• Read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.


• Prepare accurate inspection, maintenance, and technical service reports.

Inspection and Maintenance

• Perform preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, testing, and corrective repairs.


• Identify potential failures and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive action.


• Ensure serviced equipment is properly tested before being returned to the customer.

Safety and Customer Support

• Follow Mantrac’s health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.


• Use tools, equipment, and protective gear safely and responsibly.


• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.


• Provide professional technical support to customers and colleagues.


• Protect company and customer equipment, tools, and confidential information.

Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Heavy Equipment Technology, or a related technical discipline.


• Relevant technical or vocational certification may also be considered where supported by strong practical experience.

Experience

• Minimum of two years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, generators, trucks, or similar equipment.


• Previous Caterpillar experience is preferred but not mandatory.


• Experience working with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems is essential.


• Experience using electronic diagnostic tools will be an advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting ability.


• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.


• Practical ability to inspect, dismantle, repair, assemble, adjust, and test equipment.


• Ability to use service manuals, parts books, measuring instruments, and diagnostic tools.


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.


• Good technical report-writing and communication skills.


• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic reporting tools.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.


• Willingness to learn Caterpillar systems, standards, and technologies.


• Strong safety awareness, integrity, discipline, and customer-service orientation.


• Ability to work in workshop and field environments when required.
