Strategic Development Mining Company (SDMC) is a Liberian mining company developing gold mining operations in Liberia. Its activities include mine development, excavation, material handling and gold processing, supported by technical, operational and administrative personnel. SDMC seeks qualified, safety-conscious professionals committed to efficient production, integrity, environmental responsibility and respect for surrounding communities.
Job Purpose
Operate excavators safely and efficiently to support excavation, overburden removal, ore loading, drainage and other authorised earthmoving activities while protecting personnel, equipment and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and record pre-start inspections of tracks, hydraulics, attachments, fluid levels, alarms and safety devices.


• Excavate and load ore, waste rock and other materials according to approved plans and instructions.


• Maintain separation of ore and waste to minimise dilution and material loss.


• Position equipment on stable ground and maintain approved distances from excavation edges, unstable faces and overhead services.


• Maintain safe swing clearances and coordinate movements with drivers and authorised spotters.


• Construct drains, sumps and access areas within approved excavation limits.


• Stop operations when ground conditions, visibility, equipment defects or personnel movements create danger.


• Report defects and support authorised servicing without undertaking repairs beyond personal competence.


• Record operating hours, fuel usage, production movements and delays.


• Park and secure equipment safely after each shift.

Qualifications and Experience

• Basic literacy and numeracy sufficient to understand instructions and complete records.


• Recognised excavator training or equivalent demonstrated competence.


• At least three years’ relevant operating experience; surface mining experience preferred.


• Successful practical assessment and site authorisation.


• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers and spotters.

Performance Measures

Safe operation; excavation accuracy; material separation; achievement of approved production targets; inspection completion; and timely defect reporting.
