Strategic Development Mining Company (SDMC) is a Liberian mining company engaged in alluvial mining under a Class B mining licence issued by the Government of Liberia. The company seeks to develop its mineral resources through efficient operations, responsible resource management, workforce development and constructive relationships with host communities.
Install, inspect, diagnose and maintain electrical systems serving SDMC’s plant and facilities within verified competence and authorised voltage limits.
· Inspect and maintain motors, starters, distribution boards, cables, lighting, generators and associated controls within assigned competence.
· Diagnose faults using suitable test instruments and current drawings; identify underlying causes before replacing components.
· Isolate circuits, prevent reconnection and prove dead using approved test procedures before work begins.
· Inspect earthing, protective devices, emergency stops, cable protection and equipment exposed to wet or abrasive conditions.
· Coordinate generator connections and changeovers to prevent backfeed; obtain specialist support for protection or design changes.
· Install or modify circuits only to approved designs; update circuit labels, drawings, inspection records and maintenance logs.
· Test and document completed work before authorised re-energisation; report defects requiring equipment withdrawal.
· Work with mechanics and plant personnel on planned shutdowns and fault prevention without bypassing protective devices.
· Refer high voltage work, complex protection testing and tasks outside competence to appropriately qualified specialists.
· Confirm the circuit identity, all possible energy sources and the isolation boundary before beginning work.
· Account for generator supplies, stored electrical energy and automatic restart systems when planning isolation.
· Check portable tools, extension leads and temporary installations used near the washing plant or other wet areas.
· Use rated test equipment and leads suitable for the system and inspect their condition before testing.
· Keep electrical panels secure, clearly labelled and accessible only to authorised persons.
· Do not undertake live work as a routine fault-finding shortcut; escalate tasks needing exceptional assessment and authorisation
Authorised industrial electrical installations and equipment. Confirm system voltages and site authorisation before deployment; this description does not confer high voltage or live-work authority.
Recognised electrical trade qualification or diploma in Electrical Engineering, with any authorisation required for the work assigned. Normally at least three years of industrial electrical experience, preferably with motors, generators and mineral processing plant. Demonstrated competence in electrical isolation, fault finding, test instruments and reading schematics. PLC or motor control experience is desirable where relevant.
Desirable Motor control and PLC troubleshooting where installed; generator changeover experience; industrial installations in wet or remote environments.
Careful diagnosis, precise documentation, independent safety judgement and clear communication before isolation and re-energisation.
Electrical reliability; preventive inspection completion; repeat faults; completeness of testing and circuit records; timely correction of defects; effective isolation and authorisation practices. Targets will be agreed against site baselines; production or cost results must be assessed alongside safe practices and reliable reporting.
Isolation and test records; electrical inspection and defect register; updated circuit labels and drawings; completed maintenance work orders.
Isolate and test authorised systems within verified competence and site authorisation. Obtain appropriate approval before re-energisation; high voltage, design changes and specialist protection work require separately qualified personnel.
Site-based work may involve heat, rain, uneven ground, noise, dust and proximity to operating machinery. Follow approved procedures, use required protective equipment and report hazards promptly. Protect company assets and confidential information; treat colleagues and host communities respectfully. Other assigned duties must be reasonable and consistent with competence. Hours, roster, remuneration and benefits are set out in the employment contract.
