Job Summary

Company background
Strategic Development Mining Company (SDMC) is a Liberian mining company engaged in alluvial mining under a Class B mining licence issued by the Government of Liberia. The company seeks to develop its mineral resources through efficient operations, responsible resource management, workforce development and constructive relationships with host communities.
Position purpose
Supervise daily washing plant operations to achieve stable throughput and effective mineral recovery while protecting personnel, equipment and water management systems.

Job Description

Principal responsibilities

·       Organise shift work, allocate tasks and complete documented handovers covering plant condition, feed, output and outstanding risks.

·       Carry out pre-start inspections and authorise operation only when guards, emergency stops and essential operating controls are serviceable.

·       Control feed rate, water flow, screening and gravity recovery settings where fitted, within approved operating parameters.

·       Coordinate with mining teams on feed supply and material variability; prevent overloading, blockages and avoidable spillage.

·       Monitor throughput, recovery indicators, water use and downtime; arrange sampling and trials with geological personnel.

·       Coordinate preventive maintenance and defect reporting; ensure isolation and verification before cleaning, clearing jams or repairs.

·       Apply authorised procedures for concentrate handling, clean-ups, weighing, recording and secure transfer with designated custodians.

·       Inspect settling ponds and recirculation systems with responsible personnel; report uncontrolled discharge, erosion or containment concerns.

·       Coach operators, maintain shift records and escalate breakdowns, unsafe conditions and production deviations promptly.

·       Confirm sufficient feed, water supply, settling capacity and staffing before starting each shift.

·       Monitor screens, trommels, sluices, jigs or other fitted recovery units according to the actual plant configuration and approved settings.

·       Keep suspect material or unusual recovery results identifiable pending review with geology and management.

·       Use documented handovers for concentrate transfers; report discrepancies immediately without altering original records.

·       Check access platforms, walkways and housekeeping around wet areas; prevent personnel approaching moving belts or rotating components.

·       Prepare daily shift summaries covering material processed, operating hours, interruptions, maintenance needs and recovery observations.

Ability to interpret basic plant readings and maintain production records.

Desirable  Experience with the actual site recovery equipment, recirculated water systems and controlled concentrate handling; practical operator training experience.

Core competencies

Shift leadership, practical troubleshooting, attention to mineral accountability and firm application of isolation procedures.

Performance measures

Plant availability and throughput against plan; recovery trends supported by sampling; accuracy of shift and concentrate records; water efficiency; timely defect correction and safe maintenance coordination. Targets will be agreed against site baselines; production or cost results must be assessed alongside safe practices and reliable reporting.

Principal records and deliverables

Shift production and downtime log; pre-start and handover records; concentrate transfer records; plant defect and maintenance list.

Authority and accountability
