· Design phased exploration programmes covering desktop review, reconnaissance, mapping and systematic sampling within authorised areas.
· Interpret drainage patterns, sediment characteristics, geomorphology and historical data to prioritise exploration targets.
· Plan and supervise test pits, trenches, auger work or drilling where approved; coordinate excavation safety with operations and HSE personnel.
· Establish sampling protocols, sample identification, chain of custody and quality control appropriate to the mineral and analytical method.
· Log sediment sequences, overburden, gravel horizons and mineral indications; record coordinates, depths and representative observations.
· Validate analytical results and spatial data; develop geological interpretations and explain uncertainty and data limitations.
· Prepare exploration maps, budgets, progress reports and recommendations for further investigation or trial mining.
· Coordinate access through authorised company representatives and restore or secure exploration disturbances after work.
· Assess historic workings and drainage evolution to distinguish promising gravel horizons from reworked or previously depleted material.
· Define sample support and volume measurement methods before fieldwork so results from different locations can be compared meaningfully.
· Check that analytical detection limits and sample preparation methods suit the target mineral and expected concentration range.
· Apply approved blanks, duplicates or reference materials as appropriate; investigate quality failures before accepting affected results.
· Reconcile sample dispatches, laboratory receipts and certificates to prevent unexplained gaps in the exploration database.
· Present target rankings with clear next steps, estimated investigation costs and the evidence required before a mining decision.
Future prospects and deposit evaluation, rather than routine control of active mining faces. Exploration is undertaken only in appropriately authorised areas and under approved programmes.
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology or a related geoscience discipline; normally at least five years in exploration, including relevant alluvial or placer experience. Proven field programme design, sampling quality control and GIS competence. Experience interpreting test pit or drilling data and preparing technical reports.
Desirable Experience in West African alluvial deposits, bulk sampling or trial mining; familiarity with relevant geological databases and responsible technical reporting.
Analytical judgement, disciplined data management, field leadership and the ability to distinguish preliminary indications from substantiated conclusions.
Quality and completeness of exploration data; delivery within approved budgets and schedules; sampling quality control performance; usefulness of target recommendations; closure of field safety and restoration actions. Targets will be agreed against site baselines; production or cost results must be assessed alongside safe practices and reliable reporting.
Approved exploration work plan; traceable field and sample records; quality control review; target evaluation maps and recommendations.
Direct approved field programmes and sampling crews within budget. Obtain approval for new work areas, significant programme changes or intrusive methods. Do not issue public mineral resource or reserve statements unless separately qualified and authorised.
Site-based work may involve heat, rain, uneven ground, noise, dust and proximity to operating machinery. Follow approved procedures, use required protective equipment and report hazards promptly. Protect company assets and confidential information; treat colleagues and host communities respectfully. Other assigned duties must be reasonable and consistent with competence. Hours, roster, remuneration and benefits are set out in the employment contract.
