Job Summary

The Community Relations Specialist is responsible for fostering and maintaining positive relationships between the company and local communities. This role ensures effective engagement, communication, and collaboration with stakeholders while supporting the company’s social performance and community development initiatives in accordance
with Concession Agreement and Company Policies.

Job Description

 (Key activities and the expectations of the position)      
a. Community Engagement & Stakeholder Relations 
• Establish and maintain constructive relationships with County Administration and Leadership, local communities, traditional leaders, youth, women’s groups, and other stakeholders ensuring that the actions, perspectives and mission of the company are understood.  Facilitate engagements ensuring that communities and local authorities communicate  concerns to the company;  
• Establish and strengthen relevant local committees and other forums to facilitate effective communication and interactions with the clients Liberia.   
• Organize and attend relevant community meetings and forums, build partnerships, and consultations as directed and  necessary for positive external relationship management. Act as a liaison between the company and local communities  sharing accurate and timely information; 
• Mailbox tracking and suggestions; 
• Support the implementation of stakeholder engagement plans. 
 
b. Grievance Management 
• Receive, document, and follow up on community grievances in accordance with the company’s grievance mechanism; 
• Ensure resolution of issues in a timely, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner; 
• Maintain grievance registers and produce regular reports on trends and resolutions. 
 
c. Community Development & CSR Support 
• Support the identification, planning, and monitoring of community development and CSR initiatives of Ivanhoe Liberia 
in accordance with the Company’s overall established CSR priorities; 
• Coordinate with internal teams and community members to ensure projects are inclusive and aligned with community  needs; 


Assist in impact monitoring and social performance reporting; 
• Coordinate with public and private agencies in development; 
• Assist in Organizing community visits to the company facilities when directed and necessary; 
• Represent Ivanhoe Liberia at appropriate county meetings and events. 
d. Monitoring & Reporting 
• Maintain accurate records of all community interactions, grievances, and project activities 
• Produce weekly and monthly activity reports as directed;  
• Provide feedback to management on community concerns and risks. 
e. Compliance & Ethics 
• Ensure that all community relations activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, Liberian laws, and 
international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights). 
• Uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability. 
Health, Safety and Environment 
• Comply at all times with with the client's procedures; 
• Showing up for work fit for work and subject to mandatory routine drug and alcohol testing; 
• Immediately report all hazards and incidents of which you are aware; 
• Attend and participate in daily/weekly or monthly health and safety meetings; 
• Maintain a clean and healthy environment 
• Always wear and use the appropriate PPE when required in the right way; 
• Stop work and immediately inform your supervisor as soon as there is a risk of injury or damage to machinery; 
• Immediately inform your supervisor as soon as a risk is identified ; 
• Prepare a "Take 5" before performing each task; 
When a standard work procedure (SWP) has been developed for a task, review the standard work procedure before the work begins. 


Compentencies and Requirements


Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s Degree (Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Sociology, 
Management, Community Development, Communications, or other related field); 
Required skills 
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication/public speaking skills;  
• Conflict resolution and negotiation ability;  
• Cultural sensitivity and adaptability; 
• Ability to work on teams and collaborate with others;  
• Strong organizational and reporting skills 
• Fluency in English (spoken and written required); knowledge of local languages is a strong attribute and added advantage; 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
Professional experience 
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in community relations, preferably in the mining, 
infrastructure, or extractives sector but not required;


Experience working in related functions such as social services intervention, community organizing 
• Community development, environmental studies, youth and gender empowerment 
experiences, are an added advantage 
Working conditions 
• Field and Office Work 
• Based on-project site with frequent travel to surrounding communities 
• Rotational work, on the project site 
• Schedules adapted to operational requirements 
• Exposure to an industrial environment requiring strict wearing of PPE in restricted areas
